Environmental sensitivity brings more business
By Daniel Drosdoff
”Businesses are finding that many tourists are not interested just in historic sites, lodging, and good food, but also in hiking on nature trails. They have more than an average concern about the environment. That means they may be inclined to give more of their business to a firm displaying the Green Deal badge.
A Green Deal certification for a hotel, restaurant, or travel agency tells customers that the business has taken steps not only to improve service to clients, but also to protect the environment, conserve energy, and comply with health and sanitation standards. The Green Deal standards are monitored by the Rainforest Alliance, a well-financed, worldwide organization based in New York. The certification, conferred on the basis of on-site inspections, is managed in Guatemala by the Asociación Alianza Verde. The names of companies holding the Green Deal certification are posted on the Internet.
For Benedicto Grijalva, owner of the Capitán Tortuga Restaurant and the Martsam Travel Agency of Flores, Green Deal certification has been a good deal. In addition to furthering environmental goals, it is also “a good marketing tool,” he said, and it is especially relevant for the nature tours organized by his boutique travel agency, which targets tourists interested in environmental issues. He also notes that the energy savings and sanitation measures associated with the certificate—such as electricity and water conservation—improve the quality and efficiency of his business operations.”

The Mirador (5 days 4 nights)

Travel to the Lost World:
Five days of adventure in search of the lost city, lost in the jungle, lost by their town, or maybe alone forgotten. We thank Martsam Tour & Travel the impeccable, nice organization, with details (that bottle of wine we drunk on top of the pyramid of the Tiger, I remembered!) . The guide was to the height, kind, with humor, always at the service of his clients. Certain it is that the goal is not reached effortlessly; 50 Km. In the jungle, on foot almost always, it is very hard; but the trip is livened up by the beauty of the landscape, always changing, of the animals that roar from time to time, of the ruins that we cross and we visit etc. You can compare this trip to the epic poem of the first archaeologists, or when being in horse, with the adventure of the first conquerors in search of fortune. And finally, El Mirador, a diamond to polish.

Brave Martsam!

Zotz-Tikal / 3 days 2 nights

Zotz-Tikal / 3 days 2 nights
Cristóbal was outstanding guide; he provided incredible insight into the way of life of the Maya. His knowledge of the forest, fauna & flora is excellent. He also sought us a great deal of Spanish along the way.
Excellent food provided- too much, the staff at the el Zotz was great too. Ending at Tikal is the perfect conclusion. A superb trip! Thank you.
